Abdominal Imaging Division

The mission of the abdominal imaging division at UPMC is to provide excellent care to our community while educating the next generation of body imagers. The members of the division aspire to be nationally and internationally recognized outstanding educators and leaders in advancing the role of imaging in management of patients with abdominal and pelvic diseases.

The radiologists working in the abdominal imaging division are fellowship-trained experts in diagnosis of different abdominal and pelvic diseases using conventional radiological studies (such as ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, radiographs and fluoroscopy) as well as advanced state-of-the-art imaging techniques (such as multi-parametric prostate MRI and imaging-based elastography). The abdominal imagers at UPMC are also skilled proceduralists with expertise in image-guided minimally invasive procedures such as biopsies, drainages, and radiofrequency ablations. Diagnostic and interventional procedures for certain non-abdominal conditions such as pharyngeal, esophageal, and thyroid abnormalities are also performed by members of this division.

One of the largest clinical divisions within the department of Radiology, abdominal imaging division at UPMC has a national reputation for excellence and its faculties are well-known in their field. This reputation has led to multiple successful collaborations with physicians from all over the world. Major areas of research include hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, trauma, and organ transplantation.

The abdominal imaging division is based at UPMC Presbyterian hospital. The division faculty also staff UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.
